  1. Tania says:

    Hi!
I know about Nikola Tesla from my Physics courses, but just the term “tesla” as SI unit measure for the magnetic field strength.
To me it is easy to remember this term as we have this word “tesla” in my language meaning “adze”.
But listening to the English Cafe 402, I understand he was an amazing inventor.

Thank you for this nice Physics lesson.

All the best to you all,

    Tania

  2. Tania says:

    Hi!
Yes, Emiliano, I am terrified, too, how some of us can’t observe the strict rules regarding the speed.
Too many accidents, too many dead persons.

  3. emiliano says:

    Hi Tania, thanks.

It is so hard of asume that because a man was not alert in his work, may be talking by the celudar, he didn´t reduce
the train speed in time despite the alarm and by his big distraction nearly eighty persons died in seconds
Too hard, but incredible also that we are in the hands of a single man who couldn´t or doesn´t want to work in the right way.

These kind of events have not to happened any more, there must be other alarm solutions to a high speed traing running
at 200 km./hour, it can´t be on the shoulder of a single not prepared person, sick, mad, or healthy, it doesn´t matter.

Still I am shocked and can´t write about other subjects.

Sorry Warren, it takes me time to reply in your interesting note.

  4. Peter says:

    Guys
Just recently , I had a great experience that I don’t mind sharing with u
I have some American friends over for a visit
The truth is , I know them through a friend of mine.
Well, she knows the fact that I m an English junky and how much I love to try whatever Lucy teaches us in real life. Well, last night I got to hang out with them for a good 4 hours and I used as much Eslpod’s words and expressions as I could
Somewhere along the line, right in the middle of conversation , they asked me :”Peter , how did u get that far ?”
Well , I started rambling on and on about Jeff and Lucy.
And , I showed them Eslpod
    website and Lucy’s scripts
They take a look and said : ” “Interesting , whoever has put this website together knows what he/she is doing.”
they said: ” It is a great website for learning English.”
U know , the truth is if it weren’t for Lucy ‘s lessons ,I couldn’t understand them fully . And , interestingly enough ,all Jeff’s culture talk on English cafe’s episod helped me establish a good report with them.

Thanks Jeff and Lucy for the great wonder you kids call “Eslpod.” :))

  5. Tania says:

Hi! I have the same opinion: a great website for learning English.

  6. Jens says:

    hello everybody,
    I refer here to the esl-podcast 917 , types of families :

well done !!! big praise !!! I like that episode, because it includes modern family times, with regarding
differnet types of family-structures. very realistic !

it would be interesting for me, if there are differences in the states, such as west-coast/east coast vs. south or backwoods ?

the word “foster familiy” remains myself to a little story, some years ago in the neighboorhood of Toronto/Canada.
I was trying to help a women at their horse-farm, she was a “foster-women” – and a little girl, around 9 years, was in her care.
sadly enough this women wasn´t unable to manage her own life, because she was handicaped and sitting in a wheel-chair.

I didn´t knew about the situation before I got there! Anyway, I was doing the wake-up for the little girl, making her banana-sandwich
and take her to the road to get the schoolbus.

she was sleeping in a dog basket, because she was afraid going upstairs in her room – maybe that was also because of the thunder and lightening
    some days before.
funny enough I went with the women by car, ( special production for handicapted people) , to buy things for the farm. that lady was quite fast on the road
, and she was listening to a religious broadcast transmitter.
also in her home the bible tv was the whole day on!!!
The end of the stoy is, that I left that “horse-farm” (god thanks for Sue – who helped me) . But I will tell you, that it wasn´t a funny situation, when the
poor little kid were screaming that I should stay !!!

I don´t want to say that the women was bad, just overwhelmed – and I guess she need the money from the goverment (childcare).

I think there will be better “foster families” outside there !!!!

    bye
    Jens /Germany/Hamburg
