A lot of people, I have heard them, say: That cats are different, they ‘are selfish, they’ do not come when you ‘call them, they’ are going to own, are independent, unable to show love or respect or simply are strange Beings That not want To have any kind of relationship. CATS I always liked, or even doogs HORSES ….

I could not say why but I always thought I felt a deep admiration for these animals, cats are beautiful, agile, quiet or quick as lightning whenever they want.
They fascinated me and I’ve always wanted to have one or two at home.

During time it could not be, Had children and my wife did not seem to support the notion of a cat or a dog spending the house with little girls. Today finally I have a cat and is called Gatufo
The most tender, kind, be loving , peaceful, understanding That no one can think of.

He’s a friend to me and to my wife that She never loved them, but now she loves GATUFO, YES she does
    love him.

And someone who was not too well of These fascinating
Beings has changed her mind absolutelly.

Sometimes I would change me for Gatufo.

Yes, I will do it …. if possible … it Could Be
My dear cat has no ideas about the economy, illness, concealing Their evils, not the mind, not even when you ‘apercibes May be wrong, and always willing to play, to have the best possible of His Life.

Gatufo don’t thinks what will be tomorrow, if (I)…the cat… will have food, where to sleep, where I will live, I will have a place to stay, etc.
Never the cat, all cats, thinks about these subjects, but we humans are thinking every single day of our life, about every single thing in relation with
our life when we are not any more children.
Little children are like cats, they live every second….

I’d say about my cat that it’s happy, and yes, I think it would not be a bad idea “Such That We Occasionally Swap Roles”.being so, now I would be sleeping on Gatufo´s legs, and HE would be writing on the blog …. fascinating, don ‘ t you think so dear friends of the ESL Blog ….

But: sometimes Gatufo writes too because the cat is inside my mind … Don´t smile, yes he is frequently inside me.

This poem is for you, Jeff, dear
    friend and professor
who taught me so much English and humanity
till the point of making English poesy?…at least
    I like to think so.

    Without you one more day
    endure hell every morning
    in my eternal and loneliness.
I thought you’d be with me always
And you go, you’re gone and
    Saying goodbye you left me
    not a word more
Today I woke up without you
    where you are
This world was not for you
    so young you left
not knowing that I do not live any more
    Your absence can not face
    wherever you are
    soon be
    again traveling together
    another new path for
    Hand in hand forever
    happy to be together again
to run a life, another life and endless
that is my hope that leads me
to spend the rest of my life without you.

  3. Aécio Flévio Perim says:

Hi people. I have a doubt to be cleared and I ask you to do it. Is it incorrect to say five thousands instead of saying five thousand? Please understand my position as a Brazilian man learning how to speak English. It is 09:35 a.m. now in Brazil. i will be back soon for the answer.
    Thank you all.

  4. Tania says:

Hi! Very, very nice poem, dear Emiliano.
I can’t write poetry, but I have to find out one as nice as yours to dedicate to our teachers .

  5. Tania says:

Hi! Dear Emiliano, maybe you can explain me the meaning, the symbol of the drawing from our blog.
    Two eyes watching you?
Or , turn, change for the better the sheet of your life?
I am curious to see your opinion .

  6. emiliano says:

Thank you Tania, you are as always really kind
    with me.

Well, what I could see it is something like a calendar or an almanac
    passing the page of months.

Sure it is not, but it could be.

  7. emiliano says:

Aecio, I think it is five thousand

    without the ” s ”

  8. Betty says:

    Hi Aecio

Regarding five thousand or five thousands, I am glad you asked because I was not too sure neither.

Yes, as Emiliano said, it should be five thousand and not five thousands.

If you check into ” thefreedictionary.com”, they say:

A thousand or one thousand is the number 1,000.

You can say that there are a thousand things or one thousand things.

We’ll give you a thousand dollars for the story.
There was a ship about one thousand yards off shore.

    Be Careful!
Don’t say that there are ‘thousand’ things.

    Be Careful!
Don’t change the word thousand when you put another number in front of it. Don’t say, for example, ‘five thousands’. Say ‘five thousand’.

I’ll pay you seven thousand dollars.
    We have five thousand acres.”

Thousand is an “adjective” in “seven thousand dollars” . It’s not a noun and it does not take the plural form of a noun.

Now I will remember not to add “s” to the thousand.

    Betty 🙂

  9. Aécio Flévio Perim says:

    OK Emiliano, thanks for that.

  10. Dan says:

    Hi Tania,

I will tell you what that icon is.

That is a subliminal image kind of a signal for the aliens.
Since Lucy is clearly an alien, I mean, no human being is able to come up with one thousand and counting podcast.

They will soon invade the Earth and those icons are a way to communicate between them. Get ready Tania the end is near.

But do not worry, we are the only one to survive as a constant users of this website.

Just a do not stare at the icon too much, it might be dangerous.

I tried and after a while I saw demons.

    That’s what that is Tania.

    You are welcome.

  11. Tania says:

Hi! Like an admirer of the “Star Track”, for sure that Jeff have seen this alien icon
and he wants to share with us his discovery , and in the same time to protect us.
    Good joke and of course

  12. Tania says:

Hi! Thank you for your warning.
It seems to be two alien eyes watching us.
It could be and a simple calendar like Emiliano said.

Thank you for the word “subliminal”.
I have not known that there was this word and in my language.

  13. Tania says:

Hi! A warm and touching story about cats.
I love animals, too. Their large eyes… begging our love.
Yes, little children are like cats, they live every second.

  14. Dent says:

    Hi dear Emiliano
    It was very nice poem!
As you mentioned we learn a lot of things from Jeff , Lucy and rest of ESL team
English and USA culture and humanity.

    Thanks a lot

  15. Tania says:

Hi! Dear Jeff, maybe you are ill and we do not know.
Listening to English Cafe 464, we can hear that your voice is changed.

    We wish you much health.

    All the best for you.

  16. Dan says:

Souvenir medallions Souvenir medallions Souvenir medallions

Thank you Jeff that is now in my brain.

  17. Dan says:

It’s just me, or E.C. 464 sounds different.

It sounds like it has been recorded at a different location -bigger room- or with a new mic.

Souvenir medallions… when I think Empire State Building I think King Kong with the girl in its hand..souvenir medallions..

  18. Jeff says:

I’ve been really busy with some other projects so I had to “miss” a week on my blog post. Thanks for all of your concern!

I have started recording in a different room, which probably explains the changes some of you hear in the sound of my voice. And for some recent episodes, I was testing a new mic. And I have allergies. And I’m getting old. Any or all of these things could be the reason!

  19. Tania says:

Hi! Dear Jeff, we can understand you. Very, very busy, your allergies,… but getting old?

You know that we all love you, even older.

  20. Marcos says:

    Hi Jeff and everyone

In my country there are different kind of foods that need different kind of condiments to make taste better. I know ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise because we have Mc. and others fast foods here, but it doesn’t is the main food we eat every day, I don’t remember the last hot dog I eat, burger, maybe once a month or less. I don’t use steak sauce, horseradish, tartar sauce, and chili sauce normally in my food. To each his own.

    Have a nice weekend
