Frank Sinatra – “Fly Me to the Moon” (318 – Writing a Love Song)

Today’s podcast, ESL Podcast 318, is about writing a love song. If you’re like me, you don’t know how to write a love song, but maybe you’re in the mood for (have a feeling of wanting) for love. If so, here’s some Frank Sinatra to make your Monday go by a little easier.

~ Lucy

Fly Me to the Moon

Fly me to the moon
And let me play among the stars.
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars.
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me.

Fill my life with song
And let me sing forevermore.
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore.
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you.
_____________

forevermore = forever; always
to long for (something) = to have a strong wish or desire for something
to worship = to love and deeply respect, usually a god
to be true = to be faithful; to love only me

  1. ESLPodcast Google Group says:

In this (ESLPod 318) vocabulary there is the expression “none of your business”.
“Ain’t None Of Your Business” is a music written by Becky Hobbs and Lew Anderson, recorded by Kiss with Peter Criss lead vocals in 1976.

  2. Oleg says:

Thanks Lucy for this interesting post with amazing song :)))
    We listeners love you)

  3. Igor Grivko says:

Thanks for a song. We have in Russia a proverb – there is a one step from love to hate. And we have a lot of examples of this in life and in literature.

It is not very hard to sing a song to your girl or to make a gift to your girl, but I think it is much harder to be faithful and honest husband or wife for all of your life “till death do you part”!. Sometimes we have may be a deep feelings, but they have no roots and end very soon. Very often we are loving not another person but ourselves.

  4. Vaclav says:

Lucy, I appreciate your great idea with this nice song.
    I agree with Oleg, thanks.

The best of human beings is real love, that love that you say Igor Grivko, till death do you part. And after 37 seven years with my girl, my best friend, my wife, my only woman for ever I can tell you that love do exist. And now that she is very ill and incapacitated for nearly seven years, I love her more than ever.
Just now we are having very bad times with her illness, tomorrow we are going to hospital again, but we are close together and confort each other continuosly. So be faithfull about that feeling you may find with someone some time.

  7. Sam Liu says:

    Hi there,

You know what? In Singapore, one of the commercial companies uses THIS song as their product advertisement! No wonder it is so familiar to me… In other words, there is no doubt that classic is classic!

  8. Igor Grivko says:

I am really glad to hear about your love, Emiliano. You are a happy man, so now I know that love do exist in our world. Best wishes to you wife, I hope she will be better.

I am in love with my wife too, we are together for 15 years. We have 5 children and I am happy about it. In the Bible we can find a string: “love is as strong as death” (I read it only in Russian, so my translation may be not very poetry). But I think that love is stronger than death.

  9. Jose Ailo says:

Hi Emiliano, God bless your wife and you and just to say that I will do a prayer for her. Where are you from ?
    Best regards!

    Jose Ailo

  10. emiliano says:

Thank you Igor, thank you Jose Ailo, she is now really very ill, and we two need so much courage to go on.
She has multiple sclerosis and those days the illness is increasing badly.
We are from madrid, spain. and we need just your prayer. I need a good chang for her health.

  11. Since 1961 I am hearing The Voice. Thank You Mr Sinatra
