Hello, friends. I’ve just listened to ESL podcast number 1126 “Visiting a Pawnshop” and I have to confess that I liked a lot. It is a new subject and as always is good for beginners. I always have something new to learn with ESL podcast. Not to forget to say that I thank Jeff and Lucy, the mysterious faceless lady.
Aecio from wide and beautiful Brazil.

  2. Aecio Flavio Perim says:

Now you can’t say you don’t have any responses, Dr Jeff. Now you do: mine. I know why you think there aren’t no anyone’s responses. I live in Brazil and there is a difference of 4 hours in time because of fuse of time from Brazil and USA. Check the time. It is 08:11 here in Bazil and I think it is 04:11 in USA.
    My best regards.
    Aecio

“Visiting a Pawnshop” is my episode of the week!!!
I have always wanted to expand my vocabulary on the subject!
The good thing ,you might say the best thing about eslpod episodes rather Lucy ‘s scripts is that when she introduces us the outline of new episodes on eslpod weekly schedule ,I m one hundred percent sure that I m in for a joy ride as she always covers all the the good stuff there is : The words ,slangs, idioms ,and expressions I must otherwise have pocked around for quite sometimes to glean.
It is amazing ; almost all I need to know on the subject is there on the fun lesson.
I can’t wait to see what Lucy has to say about our upcoming pawnshop experience

    Thanks Lucy ,

    Guys,
Today I ran a frivolous experiment! And , to my disbelief ,it cheered me up !
You know ,it has been quite hectic at work for quite sometime.
I needed to let off steam!
Please , don’t go out and judge me 🙂

Allow to narrate the silly ,childish experiment

this morning as I woke up I pretend to be this brat kid and threw tantrums around my place :)))
The most cheerful experience I had :
I opened the tap water on my kitchen and I put first my index finger over the hole of the pipe where water runs out of the pipe in to the sink and squirt the water half way through the kitchen. It hits my area reg right in the middle of my kitchen. It made me smile. But I needed more than that! I needed a good belly laugh :)))
So ,I extended the experiment and tried all my fingers too see how far every finger squirt the water.:))
    I had a good laugh!!!
The moral of the story rather experiment is :))
the trajectory and the longitude the squired water takes totally rides on the finger you use to cover the pipe hole:)
The Thumb is best!! It is an ultimate joyful ,fun experience. When u cover the pipe hole with ur thumb you can squirt the water all over to the end of the kitchen and hit the kitchen door even further into the living room. It is almost three times as much the index finger.
Now that I m stress-free! I need to go get my first dozes of caffein.

Oh gosh ,my place is a disaster area. Such a mess !!! It is my off Sunday going out of window. I have to clean up this mess. But coffee first !!

Well ,actions have consequences ! Right guys?

    Off I go !

    Pete

  4. Aecio Flavio Perim says:

Actually, there is a 5 hour difference from my place to yours.

  5. Dan says:

    Hey guys,

While Peter is flooding is house, I am looking at windows 10 that was downloaded just yesterday evening.
First impression is good, I like it. Thumbs up.

Now I am playing this game that was on called Candy Crush. Quite an addictive game.

Hey Emiliano, are you going to have Windows 10 installed? Do you play Candy Crush?

I remember you complaining about Windows 8. This version looks better.

    Bye

  6. peter says:

    :))
    Hey Dan,

    Good one :)))
I flooded it ,all right 🙂

    It was fun ,though
    Sometimes u take extream measures!!
Good thing this weekend is a long weekend here. This Monday is civic holiday which means all state-related offices are closed tomorrow. It includes me as well since my job is government based. By that I mean I work in public sector not privet sectors.

I m planing on watching “mission impossible ” it came out yesterday. I had had my eye on it for weeks.
    It is big-screen worthy
U know ,mission impossible is one the highest-grossing film franchises. I m almost certain that It is gonna rake it in this time too.
I m gonna watch it on big screen in 3D which is gonna make an ultimate movie experience.

I m a movie goer. One of my favorited pass time. U know , Sometimes I Go to the movies for escapism ,sometimes for a good cathartic cry.:)
But this time around ,it is all about the thrill ,it is all about the rush!!

    Off I go

    Pete

P.S. I forgot to mention that The best movie of all time which is among my top 5 all time favorit movie ” Star Wars” is coming out soon.

Man , My heart racing up just thinking about it! Look !!! I got all goosebumps.

  7. peter says:

    Hey Dan,
I see that u are throwing around specs that I can’t understand!
    I m not computer savvy.plus, I m not big on computer games.
In fact , I never played even one single game in my entire life.

My iPhone is all the high-tech I get!!!
It meets all my technological need and more

I love iPhone.it is intuitive. It is User friendly, I mean.
It is multitasking. And ,the most important of all it fits in my pants front pocket!!

    Off I go
    Pete

  8. Dan says:

    Hey Pete.

If you like Star Wars have a look at what they have created with the
videogame coming out November this year.

Look some videos of it. Star Wars Battlefront

The last one coming out for new gen. consoles. It looks great.

    Enjoy your movie. Bye

  9. Tania says:

Hi! I’ve never seen the movie or the book “The Hobbit”, but I know that all little children know all
    about a hobbit.
Today, all children know more then their parents.

I like the photo. Thank you.

  10. Tania says:

Hi! Receiving an email at every some days it’s an amazing feeling:
someone thinks about you, someone wants to help you in English learning, and all free.
It’s about Jeff’s emails from the English Magazine.
I have printed them , I have made a file with all emails. I am reading them like a book, but an English book.
It’s a new way to practice my English.

  11. Tania says:

Hi! I like the title “Pull the Trigger on Your English”.
Pull the trigger…I think it’s my case.

  12. Tania says:

Hi! Reading “They Laughed When I Ordered a Taxi”…I’ve remembered of my English teacher.
He knew that we were nor comfortable in English language so, laughing he told us about his first visit in London.
He couldn’t understand very well the native speakers.
His luck was a Spanish taxi driver. He was his best friend, as we have a similar accent.
    He could understand him perfectly.

  13. Tania says:

    Hi! You are right.
“There’s nothing wrong with having an accent in English , as long as people
can understand what you’re saying. It’s not necessary to be perfect.”

I think that we can’t say the same about the grammar rules.

  14. Tania says:

Hi! I don’t apply the Jack Daniels Method, but I am sure that it is working.
We all have a pretty good accent in English if we have a beer, wine or other alcohol before speaking English.
Life is pinker after a drink, like at a party.

We have Jack Daniels whiskey in our shops, too.
It is expensive, but it is very good.

  15. Tania says:

Hi! All your emails from Learn English Magazine is good “input” for us at reading, too.
I have printed all emails and in this way they are more comprehensible.
Yes, it’s about a new approach in English language learning.
We have to change our way of thinking about learning, about our own life.
And in my country there is a new approach in the learning system, at school.
In fact, every new school year brings a new approach.

  16. Tania says:

Hi! I’ve tried watching a movie in English without the subtitles. I’ve picked up a book to read…
Indeed, too hard for me and discouraging.
Like you say, the “secret” is to listen to cool and useful stuff, and the most important to be COMPREHENSIBLE
    and COMPELLING.
Very boring, annoying and tiresome to look up every word for understanding the text.

  17. Tania says:

Hi! I’ll follow your piece of advice.
“Listen daily for 20 minutes to someone speaking English.
Listen to how they say things. Think about your English “problems” and try to solve them by listening.”

Thank you to all Learn English Magazine team.

    Tania

  18. peter says:

    Hey Dan,

Thanks for the tips on the computer game front !!!

There was a change of plan. I didn’t watch the movie today.
Well , I was going to. I had one foot out the door that my friend called me and asked me when I was gonna catch the movie. I told him that I was going to catch the movie. He said that he was planing on watching the movie himself too. Knowing I m a movie junky ,he called me to set a time so we could go together.

Well ,his offer was too tempting to resist.
In Canada on Tuesdays, you can watch movies at a discounted price. It is almost half of the regular price.

The standard show fee is 13 dollars. If u wanna watch in 3D it is 15 dollars ,and Dolby 3D is as high as 17 Dollars which is a bit steep for my blood! 🙂
On Tuesdays , the ticket fees are $8 , $11,and $13 respectively which is a good save. He offered to go watch it tomorrow after work.

The thing is ,tomorrow I keep long hours at work. So, he suggested we could take in a late show time.
Long story short we are watching it tomorrow ,on Tuesday , at 22:40. The run time is 1 hour and 49 minutes which means we will be done with the movie around midnight!

I didn’t sulk and I didn’t sit on my hands. 🙂 I did something else instead!

I had a marathon of Eslpod episodes today
The marathon was nothing short of watching mission impossible itself, as joyful!

In fact . I m listening to jeff on English caffe 285 as we speak rather text 🙂

Being single has its perks Dan.

    Off I go

    Pete

  19. Dan says:

    Hey Hi

Listening to EC about prohibition I do not get why, given what they have learned it the past with prohibition, the US does not legalize all the drugs.

I often hear the argument by gun owners that if you ban guns the criminals are going to get those anyway.

Isn’t that the same with drugs? They are going to get drugs anyway, but from criminals.

Legalizing it would take away huge amount of money and power from criminal organizations. Isn’t that the case?

    What do you guys think?

    bye

  20. Aecio Flavio Perim says:

Hello, folks. Is everything all right. What about to ask Warren to talk about hostage and ransom? Good topic, hu?
    Aecio

  21. emiliano says:

Tania, if you want to read a good English book writen by an Oxford professor who was teaching English at that University, you may read
The Hobit as it was written by a genious J.R.R.Tokien.

Tolkien work at the Oxford English Dictionary, where he worked mainly on the history and etymology of words of Germanic origin beginning with the letter W.[67] In 1920, he took up a post as Reader in English Language at the University of Leeds, and became the youngest professor there.
While at Leeds, he produced A Middle English Vocabular.
In 1925, he returned to Oxford as Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Pembroke College.
During his time at Pembroke College Tolkien wrote The Hobbit and the first two volumes of The Lord of the Rings.
Beside, The Hobit its amusing, nice, incredible chearful and the other books are like the best saga ever written pointing a new path where hundred of books have been written following
    the pattern.

So, yes, despite The Hobbit was written like a book for one of his children its English is perfect, just the same as the three books of The Lord of the Rings.
I have the great pleasure of reading the four books in English, of course, and its one of the best jobs you coud do to learn lot of things enjoying the best English you may imagine.

Go ahead Tania, and other, take in your hand The Hobit, in English of course, and start to read it.
By the ways, forget the movies meanwhile, just read the book and after reading the first it is sure you may read the other three.

  22. Marcel says:

The Eslpod team is bright, congratulations!

Could you guys talk about Medical system in USA?

    Have a nice day!

  23. Aecio Flavio Perim says:

This is my message for you to keep in your heart.
    Aecio
